You Can Live Like A
Champion
Thirteen and fumbling through middle school I met Cara Heads young
and open to impression. In retrospect, it was my great fortune to fall
into the company of such a fine athlete whose skills fall short in
wonder, only to the delicate smile upon her face. Cara remains steadfast
as one whose words and examples have allowed me to move effortlessly along
through any twists or turns. My friend has been the spur of my motivation
and the catalyst to any strength that I've found.
I was introduced to Cara eight years ago and have since made my second
Olympic team. As aforementioned, my good friend has been just that; she
has seen me through the tough, as well as the most triumphant moments in
my life. Cara truly, is a CHAMPION.

But What If You Lose?
Losing is an emotionally sobering experience. It happens to all of us.
Losing a competition, a loved one, something sentimental, or someone you
love is always difficult. But losing doesn’t make you a loser. Only your
belief that you are a loser can do that. What separates a winner from a
loser is their mindset, their resiliency and their perseverance. In order to
be a winner in life you have to LIVE LIKE A CHAMPION!
“……if Cara wins or loses she still looks positively at things and smiles.
She knows how lucky she is to have the opportunities that she does because
there are others that aren't as fortunate. Cara is a giver and finds time to
help others out. She would give you her shirt off of her back. And I am
happy that she is taking the time to show others how to live their lives
like champions.”

Still Not Sure?
Throughout her career, Cara has touched the life of many other athletes and
they have all been amazed with her ability to focus and achieve success in
any challenge. By training with Cara, they learned how to increase their
strength and speed, how to achieve new heights of performance and create a
champion lifestyle that they had only dreamed of before. Tanya Lindenmuth, a
6-Time National Champion, was one of the lucky few to have worked closely
with Cara. Read how Tanya's life changed with Cara's guidance:
GO CONFIDENTLY IN THE DIRECTION OF YOUR DREAMS. LIVE THE LIFE YOU HAVE
IMAGINED! Cara Heads totally embodies this sentiment, which is my favorite
quote from Henry David Thoreau. Cara has taught me that within sport there
can be extreme highs and equally extreme lows but it's how you handle
yourself during those times that truly matter. Being a champion is a state
of mind as well as an action and she inspires me to achieve this daily no
matter the outcome of my races. Cara teaches by example and has proven to be
one of the best friends that I have made here at the training center. She is
a dedicated athlete with a tremendous talent for "being in the zone". On
more than one occasion she has helped me with Olympic Lifting Techniques in
the gym, which are not my forte, and it was her strength and faith in me
that got me through. I was able to then carry that confidence with me and
apply it to everything that I do. Cara has a made a huge contribution to the
world just with her presence and, I'm excited to say, has now chosen to
share the secrets of her success others.

I've been blessed to know Cara Heads since 1996. I've known her in both the
capacity of a friend and an elite athlete. In my Junior year at the
University of California at Berkeley as a collegiate football player, I
would often see Cara practicing in the weight-room. What caught my eye was
her drive, her intensity and her commitment to her sport – she was there
everyday!! I often revisit memories of her practicing the Olympic Lifts.
Surprisingly enough, she was usually lifting more than me and my teammates.
As a collegiate football player at temping to become a champion just like
Cara, it was easy for me to admire her drive and determination to be the
best. While in school it was only natural for Cara and I to become good
friends because we shared a passion to compete with the best athletes in the
world and win. Ever since college, I've played in the NFL; Cara was a
champion then and she is a champion now - holding American Records and
snatching 7 National Championships over the past 8 years in the process. Our
friendship is priceless and I am honored to know her and I am glad that I
know that she is willing to help others learn how to live life like a
CHAMPION.

It has been a pleasure to speak with Cara Heads while being an athlete at
the Olympic Training Center. As a Certified Strength and Conditioning
Specialist, Cara has certainly taught me a lot about focus and attenuation
during her training. Because I am a big fan of the Olympic lifts, I used to
watch practice at the Olympic Training Center on many occasions. I, like
many elite level athletes, can look into someones eyes and see if they are
ready. I remember the day when I went to watch weightlifting practice and
they were maxing out in the squat. I got to see the definition of
attention up close. The definition of attention is the ability to eliminate
all external stimuli. As a world class athlete Cara definitely understands
how to focus. Cara was preparing to squat 400 pounds. Everyone in the room
could see the look on her face. She had the look of a CHAMPION. There was no
fear, no doubt, and no hesitation. Cara got up under the bar stepped back
and went down and up with 400 pounds. on her back. Everybody started
clapping. At that time I was amazed. As a coach, I've only seen a few men
squat that much weight. I've never seen a woman do it.
I've never seen someone so in tune with the importance that focus has on
competition as I did that day. Seeing Cara practice certainly helped me
during the Olympic Trials. I was having a more difficult day than that,
which I had anticipated and I had to literally go in the bathroom, close the
stall, shut everything out and get in a zone. I had to get into the same
zone that she was in when she squatted those 400 pounds. I ended up winning
the trials and I must say Cara was very instrumental in my success and
preparation. Not only is she an Olympian and a World Class athlete, she is a
World Class friend, an inspiration and an athletic role model.

to say about Cara's incredible accomplishments:
Cara Heads is a World Class Athlete. She has competed nationally and
internationally and at the age of 22 made her first Olympic Team. She placed
seventh in the Olympics in 2000 and since then has devoted her time and
effort to her craft, sacrificing much to train at the Olympic Training
Center. When I first met Cara at the Olympic Training Center I wondered how
such a graceful and poised woman could squat 400 pounds and then I saw her
during practice focused and on top of her game. She continually increases
the intensity of her workouts pressing to outperform her most recent
personal bests. Her level of dedication and achievement in this stage of her
career is inspiring and a prime example of a championship lifestyle. As a
true athlete, Cara excels in her sport and her training acumen is second to
none. Cara Heads is a World Class CHAMPION! Get in line with Cara Heads and

I met Cara for the first time
back in 1995 at a national competition. Her effervescent
personality, smile, and passionate desire for excellence has not changed
over the years. I often wondered how she always put herself in a position to
compete for the gold every year. My curiosity was satisfied in the spring of
2004 as I had the unique opportunity of training beside her at the Olympic
Training Center. She trains with an unparalleled intensity and a mental
focus that surpasses that of many elite level athletes, male or female.
Cara
has proven herself to be a true champion winning multiple national
championships, breaking American records, and earning a spot on the 2000
Olympic Team.
Cara was very instrumental in helping me win my 8th National Championship.
Shortly after my arrival at the OTC, I asked her about some of her
preparation strategies and she introduced me to video analysis, visual
imagery, daily training notes and methodologies of training. After
incorporating some of these strategies into my program, I equaled the
American Clean & Jerk record in my very next practice session. I saw Cara
back squat 400lbs with relative ease recently and I remember not being
surprised by that very impressive lift because her true strength is in
mental preparedness. Cara understands what it takes to be a champion and has
proven in many ways that she has the courage to face any challenge
head on. I will be a better lifter for having experienced they way
Cara prepares to WIN!!!!!!!
